On this auspicious or infamous date…

A beautiful day! A beautiful day to be travelling in Wild Thing!

But…here she is, parked in the home spot :(

Today was to be the day we would roll… Bob, Bear and I – all together…a few days dawdling around Montana and then south to Mama, Bill, Betty…and the 4-leggeds Barely, L.B., Louie and Miss Dixie Lee.

…the show stopper… (propane tank…heat and cooking “fuel”)

That is just the side. The underneath is even worse. And worst of all…I knew the side part last Fall but never thought to look under.

4-6 weeks to get a new tank here.

It is ordered and with the hope that 4-6 weeks is conservative, I have all else ready to go. When the new tank arrives, weather/work/house, etc. will be evaluated. Fall, Winter or early Spring – we will go!

Meantime…September 13. Six years ago today, Bob, Karl and I moved into this little house in the woods. It was good. This post titled 3 years tells the tale.

But today, although we are not rolling…and Wild Thing is parked…it is still a beautiful day. The weather is perfect: blue sky, 72 at the warmest, soft light…

Enjoyment in the woods…

…and on the front porch!

Rats! – I thought I caught them actually touching noses…

They did and do :)

And even better, they relax around each other. It nearly brings me to tears to see this…to turn and work at my desk with my dear boys in the same room with me.

I am disappointed that we are not on the road. But on this beautiful day, 6 years in this place, with Bob and Bear ok together – I am content.

57 years

Today I celebrated 57 years on this earth.

I am grateful for every day I’ve had and for all the things that have been and are now part of my life.

Thank you all for your well wishes.

It was a beautiful day.

and above all, have fun

August 15, my birthday eve day…a beautiful day.

Yesterday was hot, smoky, stuffy…a little miserable weather-wise. But overnight, a cold front whooshed through. And it rained. And the morning dawned cool, clear and fall-like.

Not only is today my birthday eve day but it is also the anniversary of Julia Child’s birth and this year is the 100th. Julia Child is a recent inspiration to me. I love and admire her fearlessness and passion for life.

“The best way to execute French cooking is to get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken. Bon appetit.”*

Bon appetit, indeed :) !!!

This evening, Bear, Bob and I shared a space of proximity that I thought might be impossible a year ago.

“Learn how to cook — try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless and above all have fun.”*

Oh, yes.

It was a dark and stormy night…

…or to be more exact…it IS a dark and stormy night. I write this post with thunder rumbling and getting closer. The sky is dark at 8:00 p.m. an hour and 45 minutes before sunset. My S.A.M.E./NOAA radio has alerted twice for severe thunderstorms.

I cannot help thinking of and missing Karl…knowing this weather would be so upsetting to him.

…Bear, it does not faze. Bear is lying on my bed. The window is open, lightning is flashing and thunder is rumbling and he is calm.

Bob is under the daybed in his room!

It is a dark and stormy Saturday night.

The grass has been mowed. The yard and house and woods grasses glow green – more so against the backdrop of the stormy skies.

But during a time of light…

Mariposa Lily.

The woods has a bumper crop of Mariposa Lily this year.

Beautiful.

CRASH, BANG, BOOM and a flash of lighting! The storm approaches. It is raining…harder.

Time to unplug. Happy Saturday evening.

Happy Birthday Dear Mama!

My Mama, me, Miss Dixie Lee Morgan…us girls :)!

Mama and I have both cut our hair and trimmed some pounds, but we are who we are and we are happy to be us.

I am VERY happy to be my mother’s daughter and to be where she and I are in a wonderful place of sharing the love of food, of cooking, of books, of pets, of animals, of life and of each other.

Happy Birthday, Dear Mama!
