25 Meaningful Ways You Can Help Ukraine (globalcitizen.org)

For me, it is challenging to live my life which is currently good and safe and relatively secure … while watching what is happening in Ukraine.

It is different [to me] than many of the climate and weather cataclysmic events. This is something that need not have happened. There is no good reason for this “war”. The devastation and life disruption is something that I thought we, as in humanity, was beyond.

It is not over.

It … as in devastation and life disruption … could come to us in the United States. And I wonder if we would respond with as much courage and unity as Ukraine seems to have.

First of all, having lived through Chernobyl, we here in Europe, are all living in fear of another nuclear “accident”. Then, in my recent lifetime I have lived through so many invasions of sovereign states for unjustified reasons – Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia and now Ukraine. Has the world gone mad? It is hard to believe that in 2022 we are in a similar situation to 1939.
I feel very sad and discouraged.
Many people in N.Z. have booked Airbnb’s in Ukraine as a way to get some funds to people and it seems to be working (at least for those who are lucky enough to have an Airbnb, even if has been destroyed). We already have refugees coming into Greece.
And the price of petrol and heating oil, not to mention natural gas and electricity have skyrocketed. I mean huge increases which not many people can afford to pay.
What happened to “peace in our time”?

Booking Airbnb is brilliant! Even with well-run organizations, some of every dollar donated has to go for administrative costs. The Airbnb solution gets all of the money to Ukraine … hopefully to people who need it or will help those that do.

Here, we are beginning to feel some $$$ affect, but I am fairly sure, not near as much as Europe … yet.

You and I have traded comments before despairing of the lack of historical knowledge. Whether it is COVID or these wars, we don’t seem to have learned very much :( .

Note the number of people here in the U.S. … supposedly educated who saw no red flags when a person running for President and then President tried and with some minor success, to control the media. Every fascist, dictator, oligarch starts out controlling information.

      The nuclear threat is horrifying.

I have seen so many posts regarding the feeling of helplessness. What can we each do? How can we help. I hope that discussions like this not only make each of us feel less fearful and more determined but that maybe ideas are fostered.
