Sometimes, the plans, they go awry

It was a TGIF Day x 10 this Friday. We were all glad for it to be bedtime!

Three vet visits this week – 2 for Bob and 1 for Karl. Karl’s was a check up but some anomalies so we are waiting his results…Rats! But he is in good spirits and our routine has not been disrupted. The check up stuff is non-invasive and quick, but still stressful and we are both a bit exhausted when it’s over.

Bob has diabetes – I suspected based on his drinking and resulting output. It was confirmed from a Tuesday visit and yesterday we picked up insulin and I got a training session. I’ve given the “under the skin” shots before and the pen system they have for small doses of insulin is easy. Bob doesn’t even act like he feels anything and the results were obvious in several hours. I am not sure that he equates feeling better with 2 trips to the vet which involve two 70 mile round trips in the Jeep, but thankfully he didn’t hold a grudge.

My plan to keep on track and take the weekend completely off….hmmm….derailed. BUT, I am so grateful that I have a “job” that gives me the flexibility to take care of things and that there IS work…enough that I can work as much as I’d like, mostly when I’d like. AND, I enjoy the work and my work group and my work environment. So although not what I planned for the weekend, I will enjoy the work, a smaller amount of baking (gotta have some cookies!!), a walk with Karl through Bigfork and at least a little time in front of the fire even if it includes the computer :)!

Saturday morning as I write this… It is the week before Christmas: Christmas carols are playing, the house smells of cinnamon and cloves, the fire is popping, there is still some snow on the ground, Karl and Bob are feeling well and so am I.

Sunshine, blue sky and a trip to Whitefish

A last minute cancellation opened up a needed hair appointment for me in Whitefish. Weather cooperated on a day described by the weather persons as “the calm before the storm” – Winter storm forecast for tomorrow.

Some clouds on top of Big Mountain but I’ve heard the snow is great!

Karl and I walked at the soccer fields – our usual routine. No plowed parking, but the Jeeper did not mind.

It was so sunny that a black beardog got a bit warm towards the end of the walk.

A roll in the snow to cool off!

Sunshine, blue sky and a trip to Whitefish – Saturday.

Thursday

Thursday already!

We three members of the fambly Summers all “rise and shine” in our own unique ways…

Late yesterday afternoon, the temperature rose above freezing and stayed there overnight making everything a drippy, soggy mess. So, while not really cold enough to send a bear dog to his pillow, it is wet enough. And no, he doesn’t want to come in – he is free to come and go at his choosing.

Bob has the same freedom and chose a spot indoors.

It should be noted that both of them have been out on their morning rounds…

Me, I start with checking food and water bowls, loosing the boys to the outdoors and then coffee and a nibble: this morning, homemade rustic rye toast with peanut butter and my own cranberry-orange marmalade.

The snowthrower arrived home in working order (HEY, they had given me an incorrect belt – I feel a little bit vindicated in my repair efforts :)! ), a big storm is due with the forecast being 4-10 inches of snow, my pantry and frig are full, the work project deadline was met.

It is Thursday – hope all are having a good week!

Wishful thinking

This morning, I cleaned the ashes out of the woodstove, vacuumed and then before I started a fire got distracted by other chores…like my breakfast!

Bob thinks I need to rethink my priorities…

***I am not dependent on the wood stove for heat. Electric baseboard heaters are set to keep the house comfy when there is no fire and overnight as I let the fire die out in the night, i.e. we don’t all have icicles dangling from our noses when there is no fire.

Keeping the peace

Now that we have snow…and enough that remnants from porch roof, sidewalk and driveway have created mounds here and there, Karl takes up position in a strategic spot that affords him the best view of his territory.

There is a herd of elk that stay in the area during the winter months as well as deer. Occassionally we see a coyote and even more rare are mountain lion tracks. Where the food is the predators will follow but primarily it is deer and elk that cross the property.

But all must be kept at a distance so the alarm sounds now and again.

There, that should do it!

Keeping the peace.

Wayfarer’s walk

From the top of the walk at Wayfarer’s Park by Flathead Lake.

Temperature was just above freezing at 33F, no wind.

And no one in the park but Karl and I.
