A better day

Bob’s ear is looking much better. The infection is a yeast infection and I can’t really tell how that is going except that he is not fussing with his ears so am guessing that is better. The hematoma – broken blood vessel under the skin – caused by him rubbing or scratching looks better. I’ve been able to keep the slit clean and open so it is draining and not filling. I don’t really think that drain was going to drain well. Bob and I are both happier with the current scenario. He doesn’t seem to mind the warm compress routine or the ointment.

There was frost on the rhubarb this morning…

…but the sun came out and it got to a very warm 61F this afternoon.

Bob is maybe looking grumpy because I moved his bed away from the dryer vent. Right now it is inside with a fresh washed cover. I got to thinking that maybe lying with his head under the dryer vent…warm, moist, air – the cause of the yeast? I don’t know but it doesn’t seem like a good idea to continue.

Oh, well…eat some grass and enjoy a nice day.

Bear and I enjoyed the side yard a bit later as it has stayed warm this evening with a wonderful breeze blowing all kinds of good smells his way.

Synchronized Sleeping

We had a Monday.

So, apparently it was not good that the slit they made to drain Bob’s hematoma healed incredibly fast.

He had Yoda ear again this morning.

I had several appointments in Whitefish and Monday is ALWAYS busy at the vet… I phoned to check options and in some strange bit of whatever, Dr. Clark himself answered the clinic phone. He suggested seeing if after application of a warm compress, could I coax open the slit, allow the drainage and then keep the slit open-ish so that all can heal from the inside out.

No go. That slit was healed tight shut.

Backup plan was to drop Bob off on my way to town, allow the clinic to treat him in-between things and pick him up on my way home. Although I hated the thought of the potential stress, we did it and according to all, Bob rested quietly before and after the procedure.

They installed a little drain in the slit. And an Elizabethan collar: the cone of shame. And then I managed to dislodge the drain myself with the warm compress trying to unplug a large blood clot from the drain.

Bad words were said.

I haven’t confessed to my deed but my plan is to keep the darn slit from slamming shut with the warm compress routine. The clinic will phone tomorrow to check on Bob and I will have to come clean.

Meanwhile, we are all a bit exhausted.

And, no…I have NOT washed windows yet.

Friday Sunshine

The windows need washing but this might not be the weekend to do it.

This week got away from me on Wednesday when we had a 3 hour power outage. It was not weather related. Three substations were involved -the power company has a wonderful OutageView web page AND my neighbor phoned with some info on passing the substations going to town. It is the longest outage since I’ve been in this house – almost 7 years.

All of my electronic gadgets were fully charged and even a spare battery for my phone. I had just made fresh airpot of hot tea AND I was showered, dressed and my hair dried…VERY important as I like to be clean and put together for working…sad, but true. Bottom line, I was in good shape to endure. BUT, although typically I do not need Internet for most of my work, this day I did. I had my usual access but I’m guessing because my access is cellular and maybe a tower or 2 was without power and traffic diverted: the internet was iffy. I finally gave up and Bear and I went for a drive and a walk. We returned to power and continued on, but it was a short Wednesday work day making for a long Thursday and early start today.

Approaching 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon and I will shortly call it a week. The sun is out at the moment. The extended forecast is for messy, wintry kind of weather until late next week so we will enjoy Friday Sunshine while we may.

Weekend wrap up: 4 weeks post-op v2.0

It was a full week of work, walks, sitting outside with Bob and Bear – as we ended week 4 post-op TPLO 2.

All is going very well with Bear. He is using both legs normally: getting up an down, forwards and backwards, walking and standing.

I moved the mattress back and he seems to like being higher – a better view to the game trail and the over-abundance of deer currently.

It got cooler and has been raining off and on, gray off and on, a few sun bursts off and on…

…all causing the grass to start greening up.

Bob has been annoyed at the change in weather and blames me.

Bear and I are not bothered. We’ve been able to walk between rain events and both of us enjoy the cooler temperatures.

But all is not lost for Bob. He cozies up inside…

…and we have MY favorite kind of morning: all of us together.

Today

Today, March 28…it is Karl’s birth day. It was some 7 weeks from his birth day that he came to be with me and his cat brother, Gus, but we always celebrated the day he was born as well as the day he came home.

It is also 16 weeks exactly since Bear’s first TPLO – his right leg surgery.

So today we celebrate Karl’s birth and Bear’s 16 week post op – right leg – a GOOD day!

AND…FedEx brought a gift to help in all…

Last week, I ordered 2 prints “on wood” from Simply Color Lab. Simply Color Lab is my go to lab for prints, gallery canvas prints and now prints on wood.

I am so very pleased with the prints on wood.

They made me cry, but with joy and with pleasure.

I’m not sure this is the best place for these…I think they need a space that allows a little more space…

I’ve found, that for me, sometimes I need to live with things for a bit before I know where they belong.

For now, these dear reminders of my dear Karl – they are in a good place.

Sixteen weeks for the right leg and Two and a half weeks for the left leg.

We had a good day of walks.

And time outside with Bob.

Today.

Sunday

Sunday…lazy and quiet. As I like it.

Me and the boys.

Puttering in the kitchen.

Shredded potatoes, “drained” in a ricer…

Shredded potatoes browned in olive oil and clarified butter in a cast iron skillet with the last of the corned beef.

Making mayonnaise.

2 minutes tops.

Mayonnaise.

Napping.

And napping.

Supper together.

Sunday.
