Tough guys

He doesn’t look so tough in that photo. It was a tough day, though.

Bear broke a molar and it was removed today. The roots of the molar were healthy. It was a job getting it out. Amazing to me, Bear was not acting uncomfortable WITH the broken tooth and it had been broken long enough that my clue that something was wrong was his breath smelled like a dead animal…yea.

It is now 7:30 p.m. Although he is still not quite 100%, we took a walk and he wanted to walk the loop so we did. He trotted around like normal, although I did have him on leash so he was bound my speed. He did want to come right inside and is sound asleep.

He had a gruel of chicken broth, quinoa and mashed potatoes for his supper and ate it all. I did give him his pain medication a bit ago, but I can’t say that he appeared to need it. One tough guy!

Bob…he was home alone until we got back mid-afternoon. It was cold and foggy this morning so he only went out briefly before we left, but it was sunny, clear and 62F when we returned so he enjoyed the late afternoon and early evening out and about. I will keep Bob in the boys room and Bear with me tonight. I feel bad doing that to Bob, but always want them close after a surgery so I know if there is any discomfort.

Hard…I have to be a little tough, too :)!

As noted, sunny, blue skies, gorgeous early almost Fall day.

Bear and I

courtesy of Auntie Kris who visited Sunday…

Uncle Hal played a rousing game of chase you, chase me with Bear before we all walked the loop…then tea, cookies, visiting and a short photo session. I’ve been wanting a photo of Bear and I and just have not taken time to fool with the tripod…

Thank you Auntie Kris and Uncle Hal from Bear and I!

Friday House

Friday…

… the light

…warm on the wood and the colors of this house.

and in the woods.

Late afternoon. A good week. Light and feel of Fall. Friday House.

Waning Harvest Moon

It is still warmer than is typical for September although a cool and hopefully wet change is due on the weekend. But then we are to bounce back to slightly warmer than normal next week.

It was shortly after 9:00 p.m. as I turned out the lights to head for bed when I noticed the moon through the trees and the moon shadows in the woods. Although cool, it was not cold and I dawdled in the dark taking photos and enjoying the night.

Like the Harvest Moon which is bright, large and in the night sky for longer than other full moons…slower to wane, so is our Summer this year.

End of the day

This photo is the same evening as the Harvest Moon sunset…two nights ago.

It was a magical evening with soft layers of color in the fading day and a sharing of a new experience with Bear.

This night, I sit in the dark after a good work day, a day with time outside with Bear and with Bob, a day that had constant reminders of Karl…a day of mixed emotion.

I don’t know why some days have the difficult and sad come forth, while some have only the easy and happy and some, like today have a plethora of both.

Driving home this afternoon, from taking Bear to Wayfarer’s where we scoped out the camping situation (thinking of maybe an overnight or 2…) and had a wonderful walk, looked at the lake…I thought: I feel both the happiest and the saddest that I’ve felt in over a year. It is not a bad sad, it is a “missing Karl” sad, a “why did that dear dog have such a tough end?” sad…a sad with no answers in this earthly life, sad. And all the while I was also so happy with where Bear and I are and where Bob and Bear are and where we are as a family. Odd.

Then I looked at this photo…at the layers of color, the layers of mountains…and remembered taking Bear while remembering Karl. Mixed emotions at the end of the day.
