Normal Life: 8/29/2026

We are doing all of the normal life things: walks, cooking, cleaning, laundry … as well as experimenting with the new Air Fryer and Breadmaker.

Size comparison …

And the new large air fryer has much better (healthier) interior. I am not getting rid of the small unit unless/until it fails, but I am loving the larger unit so will not mourn the small one.

Oscar has no strong opinion either way.

Bread maker loaf … top collapsed … maybe too much yeast or not strong enough flour … BUT …

Despite the collapsed top, the bread was delicious. Crumb and crust perfect. Flavor wonderful and the collapsed top meant a “square slice” so really NOT a fail.

On Friday, 8/28, we moved sites for the last time. We will be in our current location until we depart on 9/9.

Not too shabby of a morning view out our passenger side window in the new spot.

It started cloudy, then sunny, then cloudy … but remained in the pleasant range of low 70’s F all day!

The day started with a walk, laundry, a walk, breakfast, shower, errands and then back home to enjoy a mild day – YEA!

Late afternoon light…

The new gadgets look interesting. I’ll be waiting to see how they work out. Greek bread from the bakery is actually good and freshly baked every night so I’ve never felt the urge to make any.

Love the photo of Oscar. He is a handsome fellow. Our cat, Chico, has a thyroid problem and he’s very thin. He’s only 12 years old and I give him pills every day, but the vet told me he will probably always be thin. Apart from that he seems fine.

It’s very hot here and we have hot wind and dust from Africa. Every day it’s between 34° and 38°C but hazy from the dust. Not very pleasant.

It doesn’t seem to me like we (U.S.) have bakeries like we did when I was young. At this point, I would probably still make my own bread and rolls but I’d love to have the option! We’ll see what happens as I travel.

I am keeping an eye on Oscar’s weight. He is eating normally and he is very active in the mornings. He and Emmett can play a bit of chase … down the aisle, up on the bed, back and up on the little sofa … Plus Oscar has many viewpoints outside and he “chases” the birds and squirrels from windows in the cabover to sofa and then bedroom. He is quiet at night but often when I get up, his toys are all over so he gets up and plays albeit quietly! I hope Chico continues to do well!!

Ugh … heat and dust doesn’t sound like much fun. Hope things improve soon.

Always love your posts from the road. You could write a book.
