{"id":42,"date":"2007-07-23T18:21:08","date_gmt":"2007-07-24T01:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fromthefrontporch.com\/WPBlog\/?p=42"},"modified":"2023-09-18T12:21:08","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T19:21:08","slug":"rv-plumbing-drinking-faucet-replacement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/2007\/07\/rv-plumbing-drinking-faucet-replacement\/","title":{"rendered":"RV Plumbing &#8211; drinking faucet replacement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know, riveting topic&#8230; but if you read &#8220;The Start&#8221; and &#8220;About&#8221; &#8211; I did disclose that RV &#8220;stuff&#8221; &#8211; including maintenance and repairs would be part of this blog &#8211; great thing is you can skip a post that is of no interest!<\/p>\n<p>And if you decide to read on, don&#8217;t be afraid &#8211; it really is about the drinking facuet &#8211; this has nothing to do with the toilet part of RV plumbing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/July20to312007\/FaucetOld290242.jpg\" alt=\"Old Faucet\" height=\"242\" style=\"width: 290px; height: 242px\" title=\"Old Faucet\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The old faucet fell off and sprung it&#8217;s insides when I was cleaning it after the last trip.\u00a0 So, I ordered a replacement from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winnebagoparts.com\">Winnebago Parts<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0 The replacement is a much nicer faucet, but it is different which will make a bit of a\u00a0difference noted later.\u00a0 The parts person said that his notes said to include a fitting kit &#8211; so I bought that.\u00a0 He did note that he rarely sent the fitting kit and people did not call to get it.\u00a0 I said send it as I can&#8217;t turn the water on without the faucet hooked up and I didn&#8217;t want to wait for a 2nd shipment if I needed it.<\/p>\n<p>The best thing about the fitting kit was the instructions which showed everything and how it goes together&#8230;\u00a0 My favorite part, though is the first line about &#8220;Installation &#8230;..\u00a0 being straight forward&#8221; &#8211; well, that itimidated me a bit.\u00a0 I mean, if I had trouble it would mean I was somehow incompetent..\u00a0 and then the diagram with what looked like many pieces and steps.\u00a0 Well, nothing to do but proceed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/July20to312007\/FaucetInstructions500685.jpg\" alt=\"Instructions\" height=\"685\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 685px\" title=\"Instructions\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The only things I used from the fitting kit were a\u00a0plastic ferrule\u00a0and a tube sleeve.\u00a0 The compression fitting that I needed from the kit was too small for the pipe on the faucet.\u00a0 This I discovered after the faucet was in place and bolted on and that required my neighbor, Nancy, holding at the top while I did a contortion act under the sink.\u00a0 Under a house sink is not that much fun &#8211; under an RV sink &#8211; less so!<\/p>\n<p>The 1\/2 way point&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/July20to312007\/FaucetMess300213.jpg\" alt=\"Mess\" height=\"213\" style=\"width: 300px; height: 213px\" title=\"Mess\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, a trip to the hardware with the slightly small compression fitting (1\/4) and I found a 5\/16\u00a0 and a 3\/8 so brought both home.\u00a0 The 5\/16 was the winner and things went together &#8211; a bit of teflon tape per instructions was also used.\u00a0 Water on &#8211; success! &#8211; a working filtered water drinking faucet &#8211; much nicer than the original.\u00a0 Not so bad after all.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/July20to312007\/FaucetNewRunning200293.jpg\" alt=\"Running water\" height=\"293\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 293px\" title=\"Running water\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/July20to312007\/FaucetNew280276.jpg\" alt=\"New Faucet\" height=\"276\" style=\"width: 280px; height: 276px\" title=\"New Faucet\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I know, riveting topic&#8230; but if you read &#8220;The Start&#8221; and &#8220;About&#8221; &#8211; I did disclose that RV &#8220;stuff&#8221; &#8211; including maintenance and repairs would be part of this blog &#8211; great thing is you can skip a post that is of no interest!
