{"id":262,"date":"2008-04-19T17:15:14","date_gmt":"2008-04-19T23:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fromthefrontporch.com\/WPBlog\/?p=262"},"modified":"2023-09-18T12:04:08","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T19:04:08","slug":"iowa-to-south-dakota","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/2008\/04\/iowa-to-south-dakota\/","title":{"rendered":"Iowa to South Dakota"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Karl and I, in the Winnebago, rolled out of Colony Country Campground (BTW&#8230;the campground name is a family name&#8230;not to do with Amana Colonies as I wrote earlier)  &#8211; at 7:10 a.m. &#8211; one of our earlier departures.  It was not raining, but it was damp and lots of messy, muddy puddles, but we had a nice long walk pre-dawn.<\/p>\n<p>Things stayed misty and socked in until we reached west Iowa.  The sun gradually made its appearance as the rolling green farms of eastern Iowa gave way to a browner, dryer, western Iowa.  We made the turn north before Council Bluffs and the terrain flattened and opened up to the cattle ranches of northwest Iowa and southeast South Dakota.  <\/p>\n<p>We arrived Sioux Falls at close to 4 p.m.  &#8211; long day!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Apr08\/SDRestLake500375.jpg\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"Iowa\" height=\"375\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 375px\" title=\"Iowa\" class=\"center\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Great rest area!&#8230;lunch stop &#8211; western Iowa.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Apr08\/SDRestStopRV500357.jpg\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"Iowa\" height=\"375\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 375px\" title=\"Iowa\" class=\"center\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last rest stop in Iowa &#8230;just south of Sioux City&#8230;before South Dakota.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Apr08\/SDRestStopKarl500375.jpg\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"Iowa\" height=\"375\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 375px\" title=\"Iowa\" class=\"center\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Karl seems to breathe better in the west also!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Apr08\/SDRestScene500375.jpg\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"Iowa\" height=\"375\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 375px\" title=\"Iowa\" class=\"center\" \/><\/p>\n<p>No barn&#8230;just Iowa scenery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Apr08\/SDSite500375.jpg\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"South Dakota\" height=\"375\" style=\"width: 500px; height: 375px\" title=\"South Dakota\" class=\"center\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Site at the Sioux Falls Jellystone Yogi Bear RV Park&#8230; yes, I stayed at a Jellystone&#8230;a couple of other options in my mileage range were not open until May 1&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karl and I, in the Winnebago, rolled out of Colony Country Campground (BTW&#8230;the campground name is a family name&#8230;not to do with Amana Colonies as I wrote earlier) &#8211; at 7:10 a.m. &#8211; one of our earlier departures.
