{"id":19912,"date":"2021-02-15T17:18:52","date_gmt":"2021-02-16T00:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/?p=19912"},"modified":"2021-02-15T21:28:15","modified_gmt":"2021-02-16T04:28:15","slug":"minding-our-manners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/2021\/02\/minding-our-manners\/","title":{"rendered":"Minding our manners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For this post &#8230; minding our front door manners!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am not a stickler for sitting and waiting at the front door, BUT, we have worked on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not blasting out the door<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not trampling over each other<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allowing ME to enter with groceries, etc. without being trampled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, a short video on dealing with those times when Auggie or Emmett can not go &#8230; even though I am making all of the exit signs:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Door Manners:  cat and dog (Auggie and Emmett)\" width=\"658\" height=\"370\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pgaHcQRcDm8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Exit signs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emmett is particularly aware of the signs: I have my phone, I don various garments (even in summer: over the shoulder thing that has bear spray, pick up bags and other stuff).  And &#8230; typically, something kicks in for a bathroom visit :)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever &#8230;  we exit the house calmly.  And on our walks, there is no issue of me being overrun or herded.  Neither were issues with Karl and Bear, but with Emmett, being a herding dog, I took care to teach him from puppy-hood and it has paid off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I knew that as I was 62 when Emmett joined my family &#8230; it was important that he learned to be gentle with me.  We play and tussle, but it is by invite from me, so I am prepared, vs surprise \u201cattacks\u201d :)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think that Emmett is &#8220;wired&#8221; to be a caretaker.  He fusses over both Auggie and me if we have injuries,  if we sneeze or cough &#8230; he is Nurse Emmett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auggie has some similar behaviors and will nose an injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am well looked after!  And I look after them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And we all &#8220;mind our manners&#8221; and live with respect to each other :)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For this post &#8230; minding our front door manners!
