{"id":17305,"date":"2017-01-11T20:28:06","date_gmt":"2017-01-12T03:28:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/?p=17305"},"modified":"2017-01-11T20:28:06","modified_gmt":"2017-01-12T03:28:06","slug":"alpenglow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/2017\/01\/alpenglow\/","title":{"rendered":"Alpenglow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alpenglow happens when the rays of the setting or rising sun bend around the curvature of the earth and light up the mountains in the opposite direction:  sunset lights mountains to the east, sunrise lights mountains to the west. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6000.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6000.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I went down the road close to sunset which was also supposed to be close to moonrise &#8230; a full moon rising.  With the arctic front, came clear skies and I hoped there might be an alpenglow rising full moon.<\/p>\n<p>The moon was late.  Probably not the moon&#8217;s fault.  I&#8217;m using a new moon phase app and this was my first try at matching its time for moonrise to actuality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6005.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6005.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All was not lost as the alpenglow was beautiful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6007.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6007.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>West and Northwest, there was a pink glow on the mountains.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6009.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6009.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even more north towards Big Mountain:  you can see some of the ski trails about mid-photo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6011.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jan17\/Alpenglow6011.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The last bit of pink alpenglow above the road home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alpenglow happens when the rays of the setting or rising sun bend around the curvature of the earth and light up the mountains in the opposite direction: sunset lights mountains to the east, sunrise lights mountains to the west.
