{"id":14818,"date":"2014-07-18T16:22:50","date_gmt":"2014-07-18T22:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/?p=14818"},"modified":"2014-07-18T17:05:46","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T23:05:46","slug":"beating-the-heat-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/2014\/07\/beating-the-heat-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Beating the heat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I write this, it is actually cooler:  79F vs 89F.  <\/p>\n<p>But, it is VERY smoky from wildfires in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>VERY smoky as in today, in addition to looking smoky, it smelled smoky.<\/p>\n<p>And I pray for those who have lost homes (100 in Washington) and also for the wildland firefighters.  I still often think about the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots that lost their lives last year. &#8230;and the families they left behind. Wildland firefighting is super dangerous business.<\/p>\n<p>Blech.  <\/p>\n<p>But part of Western Summers.<\/p>\n<p>At my house, we must live and deal.<\/p>\n<p>Several things to beat the heat:<\/p>\n<p>Agua Fresca.  Fresh Water.  With some fruit and a teeny-tiny bit of sweetener.  For my purposes agave nectar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/aguafresca7429.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/aguafresca7429.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My current favorite:  cantaloupe, lime juice and red raspberries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/aguafresca7430.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/aguafresca7430.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is like Hawaiian Punch, the light version.<\/p>\n<p>I usually fill 1\/3 of a mug with the fresca and top with my own sweet carbonated well water.<\/p>\n<p>Srsly good and refreshing!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/May14\/Cinco6703.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/May14\/Cinco6703.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Early May, I started making my own popsicles.<\/p>\n<p>Yum, but recently, I saw something about Zipzicle bags&#8230;kind of Ziploc bags but thin and tall with the zip at the top of the tall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/Zip7516.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/Zip7516.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I bought some to try.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/Zip7517.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/Zip7517.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kind of fun.<\/p>\n<p>And easy.<\/p>\n<p>And I can think of other ways to use these:  bits of sauce&#8230;think chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/Zip7519.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/Zip7519.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The company also sells neoprene sleeves for the popsicles so that one does not freeze one&#8217;s fingers while eating the ice treat.<\/p>\n<p>SO much fun!<\/p>\n<p>And last, but certainly not least.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been drinking my cold brew (<a target=\"Cold Brew\"  href=\" http:\/\/beardogco.com\/theroadhome\/?p=14768 \" title=\" Cold Brew\"> Cold Brew <\/a> ) for weeks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/CoolingOff7438.jpg\" target=\"Large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/beardogco.com\/WPBlog\/blogimages\/Jul14\/CoolingOff7438.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It turns out that chocolate ice cream in place of the maple syrup and cocoa, makes a VERY delicious iced mocha.<\/p>\n<p>Beating the heat!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I write this, it is actually cooler: 79F vs 89F.
